The Blues Sounds Good in Pinoy Hands By Bert B. Sulat Jr. Philippine Daily Inquirer Filed Under: Music, Entertainment (general) “Blueskrieg” Various Artists Rebolusyon Rekords/Vicor “Blueskrieg” was the moniker for a multiband blues show in 1995 at Club Dredd. A decade and many such gigs later, the event’s impresario, Gerry Diwa, produced “Blueskrieg,” an album containing 15 “original Pilipino blues music” by five bands: Plug, Snakecharmer, Firebottle, Dahon and Kulukati. These livewire groups may be classified along the blues-rock stripe, as opposed to the straightforward-blues type. As such, while traditional blues elements like the 12-bar structure and down-and-out lyricism are perceptible here, so are rock flourishes ranging from Southern rock, classic rock, even funk and Pinoy rock. Any sonic apparitions of the blues’ forebears tend to get buried in the hodgepodge of influences that echo the Rolling Stones, Sly and the Family Stone, The Black Crowes, The Cult, Red Hot Chili Pepper...

Blooze (live) by Plug

From rakrakandotcom's YouTube account: Plug Band delivers a bluesy and soulful rendition of their original song Blooze. Plug is playing as a 4-piece for the first time (since Dante's departure for Canada). Note Emy's vocals - very dynamic phrasing, as well note Chester's guitar - tone and note selection - as well as execution - gave me goosebumps first time I saw the session videos. My first time to edit using iMovieHD on a MacMINI. Recorded live during Rebolusyon at Purple Haze on May 18, 2007 by Monmon.

Di Na Lang Sana "Live" by Firebottle

This is a live version of Di Na Lang Sana by Firebottle, fronted by 'deltaslim' Joric Manlangque, one of the vanguards of Pinoy Blues, showing his vocal and guitar playing prowess! If you're one of the few lucky dudes who got a copy of the Blueskrieg album, you'll find this on track #8. Kakoi Legaspi does the Blues harp chores on this one.

Kalbaryo by Firebottle

This is a live performance of "Kalbaryo," another track from the collector's item Blueskrieg album. Fronted by Joric "delta slim" Manlanque, one of the stalwarts of Pinoy Blues, proving once again that Pinoy Blues bands are truly at par with the world's best. Pinoy Blues rules!!!

Byahero by Plug

Another great performance by Plug (one of the proponents of Pinoy Blues), this time playing "Byahero" at Purple Haze Bar in Q.C. Note: This is the second track from the album Blueskrieg.

Tumblin’ Down The Devil’s Game by Plug

An excellent performance by Plug, featuring the song Tumblin’ Down The Devil’s Game, from the Blueskrieg album. (As seen in their Myspace account) PLUG - A standard and hard driving blues rock band whose musical influences ranges from Cream, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix to guitar driven jam bands like The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin etc. to local rock icon Juan Dela Cruz Band. The band plays blues to classic rock songs. PLUG has already shown their wares in productions and clubs that support eccentric live band music such as Mayrics, Essex, Kolumn, Alky's, Corick's, Kublai's, XStudio, Conspiracy Garden Cafe, Gweilos Eastwood Libis, Purple Haze Bar Q.C., Mag:net Cafe Katipunan,Penguin Cafe,Malate, 6 Underground,Makati, Club Dredd, Libis,Maru Bar Makati, My Brothers Moustache,Q.C., Fete Dela Musique 2006 and 19Th East Sucat PLUG is composed of Magcalas, Rusty: Drums Manalang, Chester: Guitars Rodil, Emyrsonn: Vocals Santiago, Julpril: Bass Gome...
