Fast Blues Harp Lesson by Jason Ricci

Jason Ricci is pound-for-pound one of the best in blues harp. Here he shares his secret to his fast playing, starting from the "basic" scale, to which he credits Pat Ramsey for. And then he explains his own style and proceeds with some unbelievable licks. I am always in awe whenever I see videos of Jason Ricci. To a mortal like me, he is a god!

Pride and Joy (cover) by Big Ray and The Freeloaders

Live at the Tracy Dry Bean Festival featuring the very cool Lorenz Medina on lead guitars. From Wikipedia - "Pride and Joy" is the second track on Stevie Ray Vaughan's second album Texas Flood. It is a blues song and is one of his most famous tracks. Parts of the solos are from "I'm Cryin'". Stevie wrote this song for his wife at that time, Lenora, but she thought it was written about a former girlfriend of his, so he wrote another song for her.

Blooze (live) by Plug

From rakrakandotcom's YouTube account: Plug Band delivers a bluesy and soulful rendition of their original song Blooze. Plug is playing as a 4-piece for the first time (since Dante's departure for Canada). Note Emy's vocals - very dynamic phrasing, as well note Chester's guitar - tone and note selection - as well as execution - gave me goosebumps first time I saw the session videos. My first time to edit using iMovieHD on a MacMINI. Recorded live during Rebolusyon at Purple Haze on May 18, 2007 by Monmon.

Steamroller Blues by Chris Cendana

An interesting video from Chris Cendana featuring James Taylor's Steamroller Blues. Here he gives an invite to all blues guitarists to fill in the solo part of the song with their own licks. Chris Cendana is a Filipino singer and songwriter living in beautiful Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Learn more about Chris through http://www.cendana.info/bio.html.

Christmas Tears by Freddie King

Image
"I hear sleigh bells ringin' But I haven't heard a word from you in years." Heartbroken and lonely on the holidays? Hesitant to sponge up all of that holiday cheer? Legendary bluesman Freddie King is too, and instead of jingling his merry bits and prancing around some spruce tree, he's singing the blues about his Christmas Tears. And he's singing them blues for us. That, my friends, is a gift from on high.
B.B. King gets it done once more with Lucille. "Merry Christmas Baby" is an R & B Christmas standard written by Lou Baxter and Johnny Moore. It has been covered by many artists including Otis Redding, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, and Hanson.
Another Christmas song from Sam Myers featuring Lowell Fulson. From Wikipedia: Lowell Fulson (March 31, 1921 – March 7, 1999[1]) was a big-voiced blues guitarist and songwriter, in the West Coast blues tradition. Fulson was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also recorded for business reasons as Lowell Fullsom and Lowell Fulsom. After T-Bone Walker, Fulson was the most important figure in West Coast blues in the 1940s and 1950s.[2]

Christmas Blues by Santa's Band :-)

Here's something to bring some Christmas cheers! A humorous take on Canned Heat's "Christmas Blues," featuring St. Nick on vocals and blues harp and the rest of the gang. Yes, it's Christmastime, everybody!

Sam's Christmas Blues by Sam Myers

The title says it all! From YouTube: Sam Myers (February 19, 1936 – July 17, 2006) was an American blues musician and songwriter. He was born in Laurel, Mississippi. Myers appeared as an accompanist on dozens of recordings for blues artists over the past five decades, and fronted one of the top blues bands in the world. He began his career as a drummer for Elmore James but was most famous as a blues vocalist and blues harp player. Myers was in high demand for his authentic delta blues sound. For nearly two decades he was the featured vocalist for Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets.

Merry Christmas, Baby by Ray Charles

Here's the late great Ray Charles performing live at The Monastery Of Ettal in Germany in 1979. This is the 'slightly modified' version of Merry Christmas, Baby, written by Lou Baxter and Johnny Moore and originally recorded by Johnny Moore's Three Blazers in 1947. "...I just want to tell you honey, you know I haven't had a drink this morning, but guess what, I'm all lit up like a Christmas tree!"

Filipino Blues Guitarists

This is a very informative and interesting albeit short documentary about the Blues and its influence on Filipino Blues artists. From anailotcer's YouTube account: "A short video documentary about a music genre called the blues and our very own Filipino blues guitarists and enthusiasts. It is simple yet meaningful and informative. Produced and directed by Bianca Recto. In association with De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde, School of Design and Arts, Multimedia Arts."

Di Na Lang Sana "Live" by Firebottle

This is a live version of Di Na Lang Sana by Firebottle, fronted by 'deltaslim' Joric Manlangque, one of the vanguards of Pinoy Blues, showing his vocal and guitar playing prowess! If you're one of the few lucky dudes who got a copy of the Blueskrieg album, you'll find this on track #8. Kakoi Legaspi does the Blues harp chores on this one.
Performed at Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore (March 2005), this is an original track from Songs from the Alley album of Lampano Alley, written by Simon Tan & Binky Lampano. Listening and watching this video, one can't help but admire the tight band and talent behind the performance. Featuring the cool harp sound of Tomcat!

Ronnie Badilla, Master Blues Harp Player

Probably the best Pinoy Blues harmonica player today, Ronnie Badilla shows why he is called an expert of the 10-hole diatonic. The blues harmonica is a deceivingly difficult instrument to play. One needs time (and patience) to learn the intricacies - from the shape of the mouth/lips, the breathing techniques, keys to use, scales (blues, pentatonic, etc.), hand cupping, and so on and so forth. But once you master blues harp, the possibilities would be endless!

Hoochie Coochie (Wo) Man by Cuarenta

Have a treat with this classic Blues number by Cuarenta, the best Blues/Blues-rock band in Cebu City. This song was written by Willie Dixon and first recorded by Muddy Waters. Cuarenta: On vocals, Kay; lead guitars, Arnold Ang; 2nd guitar, Henry; 3rd guitar, Randy; bass, Lyndon; and on drums, Juel. I was lucky to have the chance to jam with them when I resided in Cebu a few years back. Really a bunch of down-to-earth, extremely talented, and fun group to hang out with.

Pinoy Blues Band at China Groove Bar

I "discovered" this while searching for Pinoy Blues videos. Uploaded by user korpimike . "Live Blues from inside China recorded at the China Groove Bar on Yinfeng Lu in the heart of Dongguans Financial district. Live blues every night. Friendly waitresses and a 60s Rock and Roll atmosphere." Several other videos show "Boy Blue" doing guitar solos. Mabuhay, mga kababayan!

Still Got The Blues by Gary Moore

The classic tune by Gary Moore. Not your typical 12-bar song most commonly associated with the Blues but the emotions, you can almost hear the guitar cry. Very nice guitar tone. Gary Moore (born Robert William Gary Moore, 4 April 1952, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a Northern Irish guitarist and singer.

Interview With Arnold "Anot" Ang of Cuarenta (40)

For the Cebuano Blues fans, this is for you. Here' Wilson (also known as 10STRINGS in his YouTube account) interviewing Arnold "Anot" Ang of the pioneer Cebu band 40 and currently the lead guitarist for Cuarenta (Blues, blues rock). Below is my attempt in interpreting some parts of the conversation: Arnold: For me, slow blues is more difficult to play because you need to put your emotions through it. Wilson: Would you prefer emotion over speed? Arnold: Yes, although we cannot blame the young bloods, we've gone through that, but I guess it comes with age, what your peers play, it all influences you. Wilson: Since Blues isn't that popular in Cebu and the Philippines, do you find it difficult to be accepted? Arnold: Yes, it's difficult, only a select few appreciate it, but it's a challenge for the band. But I have this personal philosophy that it's not the song genre that's important, but it's how you delivered it. It's enough that we played ...

Potty Time Blues by Elmo's Dad

Blues in Sesame Street! Here's a 12-bar tune about... well not really the best subject to discuss, but it's funny anyway. Enjoy and have a good laugh!
