Red House by The Ian Loffamia Blues Band

Here's a splendid performance from the newest Blues band in town, this time doing their own version of the late great Jimi's Red House. Note the excellent harp work + cool guitar riffs = 2 thumbs up! And to think that Ian has been doing harp for just about a year! Borrowing a line from the Beatles, "(They're) getting better all the time..."

Blues Jam - Wally Gonzalez, Cuarenta, et al.

Image
This is certainly one for the books - a very rare and historic occasion where Pinoy Bluesmen of different generations (and regions) congregate to create a musical masterpiece. Here's the great Wally Gonzalez jamming with Cebu's pride, Cuarenta (Arnold, Lyndon, Juel) and with the dude who does the vocals and great Blues harp riffs.

Wally Gonzalez Slide

Image
Here's the granddaddy of Pinoy Blues, his excellency Wally Gonzalez, this time showing his slide guitar prowess and further reinforcing his position as one of, if not, the greatest Pinoys who ever played the Blues.

Red House by IdoKento with Manny Amador

With the passing of NU107's Crossroads comes the next generation of Pinoy Blues artists - and they're getting younger every minute! Here is 14-year-old IdoKento with Manny Amador of The Breed fame doing a Jimi Hendrix classic at The Outpost, Cebu. More info about the band on my next posts.

Mornin' Blues by Paul Marney Leobrera

One the latest additions to the Pinoy Blues force is Paul Marney Leobrera. The Pinoy Blues greats only have kind and appreciative words for him and rightly so. Here he exhibits to us his Blues guitar prowess. Just shows that you're never too young to be a Bluesman!

Blues Joint Project Clinic at University of Santo Tomas

This is The Blues Joint Project band performing Hey Bartender at the Blues History & Performance workshop & concert held at the UST Conservatory of Music. Delta Slim at The Outpost - Midnight Hour Blues

After a long, long wait, I finally got to see Delta Slim's Cebu gig. Wish I'd seen this live though. Also in this video, Delta Slim's new Harana acoustic guitar had its debut and we can see what an outstanding instrument it truly is. (I can hear Boss Anot in the background excitedly commenting as well as the appreciative Cebuano crowd roaring at the end of each number.) Again, another great performance from a great Blues man.

Batugan by Labuyo

Oh man! I really love this song - from the funky country-blues style, great guitar work, to the cool harmonica chops by Egay Imperio. I can't believe I missed this my whole life. And what a timely message for all - stop all the whining and get to work! Batugan, gumising ka naman!

TomCat's Latest Project - www.bluesasianetwork.com

Image
That's right ladies and gentlemen, TomCat's got a new site up, and this time he's expanding the horizon a bit, covering Blues happenings in Philippines and the whole of Asia. Summarizing the concept and goal of this project, Tom states, "Blues Asia aims to draw the Asian blues community – musicians and fans – closer together. We’ll search out where to find each other. We’ll chat in our forum, We’ll share our recommendations about the best blues tutorials on the internet." Visiting the the site for the first time, one could see an unassuming front page - the only image is that of Binky Lampano with his signature "grimace" and a lone video of the vintage JDLC. But don't let this look fool you! The site certainly packs a wallop with a host of features including a blog, tutorials (Blues harp) and most impressive is a Blues forum where members could interact with one another. One could only conclude that TomCat indeed has big plans for the site a...

Trouble by Lampano Alley

Another great original track by Lampano Alley...though I hear a bit of Bob M's "Is This Love" on the intro :) "...trouble in the government, leads up to the president." Sad but true. A fitting message to the newest leader of the land. Enough of politics, just enjoy the music! I especially liked TomCat's and Binky's synchronized harp and vocals in the end part of the song.

I've just gotten word that our Pinoy Blues brothers in Hawaii made it to the finals for Hard Rocks Battle of the Bands! (From HardRock.com website) What's the big deal? These bands are competing for a chance to open Hard Rock Calling in London! They're battling for a spot on the same bill as Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, The Hives, The Gaslight Anthem, and Ben Harper & Relentless7. We're gonna give the winning band round-trip airfare, four nights in a first-class hotel, spending cash, and the chance to rock thousands of screaming fans at one of the best festivals in the world. Yeah, we think that's pretty cool, too. It's up to you now. Bring the noise and send one band on the tour of a lifetime! ... so let's show some love to our brothers. Support Pinoy Blues!
